At the 2019 Annual RSNA Conference, UCI Medical Student Michelle Bardis presents a deep learning algorithm capable of performing an automated brain extraction on MRI images in less than 5 seconds. Ms. Bardis discusses an efficient way to remove the skull from MRI images using an implementation of the center’s own variation of the classic U-Net architecture, the Hybrid 3D / 2D U-Net.
